Safety
These are general habits for a private meetup and a private sale. They are not legal advice, and they are not a promise that a meeting will be safe. You decide whether to meet, and you can leave.
Before you meet
- Agree on the item and the price in messages before you travel. Use the in-site messages so there is a record.
- Meet in a public, well-lit place you both know. A busy parking lot or a police-station lobby is a common choice. Prefer daytime.
- Tell someone where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to be back.
- If the other person is not a Wisconsin resident, or wants the firearm shipped out of state, stop. That transfer has to go through an FFL. See Transfer rules.
At the meetup
- Treat every firearm as loaded until you have checked it. Keep it pointed in a safe direction, with the action open and the magazine out, before you look it over.
- Do not hand over a firearm, or the payment for it, until you are ready to complete the sale.
- Do not send firearm payment through Wisconsin Gun Trader. Checkout on this site is only for listing extras such as extra photos and a product video.
- Walk away if the item does not match the listing, the other person pressures you, or the meeting place changed to somewhere private at the last minute.
What the site does not do
- The site does not ship firearms, hold them, or broker the transfer.
- The site does not run a background check or decide that a buyer or seller may legally complete the sale.
- The buyer and the seller are responsible for federal, state, and local law. Read the User Agreement and the listing rules.
- Report a listing that offers an NFA item, ammunition, or anything else that does not belong on the board.
